Always driven by the pursuit of personal excellence and service to his country of Zimbabwe, Samuel is a proven leader in his community, always moving forward despite a usually tumultuous economy. To some, his accomplishments may be viewed as “fairytale-esque”, but they are the result of a tireless commitment, a spirit of perseverance, and a no excuse attitude.
In 1988, upon completing his primary education, Samuel enrolled for Form 1 at a school in Harare. This was significant, as it was at this time that Samuel answered the Lord’s calling and took the teachings of the Bible to heart in everything he did, including as a casual worker in the private sector, and then a government worker.
While working toward an ICT Diploma through Africa Virtual University, the University of Zimbabwe, the opportunity to become an entrepreneur presented itself when a crisis arose from a lack of the required books for taking certain classes. The ones that were available were costly and not easily obtained. Samuel didn’t hesitate to act, offering the University photocopying services for a more affordable, nominal fee, and they accepted. Upon receipt of the order Samuel initiated the steps to raise capital by taking small loans from family to fulfill the order. This was an exciting adventure for Samuel. Two intensive weeks later, the order was fulfilled, and the University became one of his biggest clients. He delivered what he promised, efficiently and affordably. It was the birth of his stationary company.
By 2005, the stationary company diversified into a land development company. The company entered into triple PPPs with government to provide affordable housing while reducing the housing backlog in the capital city of Harere. With this initiative, the company acquired land, developed it, and sold stands for people to build their own houses and conduct commerce at. They succeeded with 500+ residential stands.
The necessity to focus on better educational opportunities for children spurred on Samuel’s interest in 2009, and he became so passionate about it that he and his wife invested all they had into raising the funds to open up Maranatha Junior School, a private school with elite teachers and a curriculum based on the principles of the Bible. Today, there are five centers of education, including a university.
In 2014, Samuel became Dr. Samuel Mudavanhu when he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree for his achievements. Other accolades include: 1) First Runner Up for ZNCC in 2010; 2) Nominee for the ZNCC Businessman of the Year Award 2011; 3) JCI’s ten outstanding persons in Zimbabwe 2011; 4) Award of Excellence Nominee in 2014; 5) Businessman of the Year in Zimbabwe 2015; and, 6) Academic Leadership Award.
Aside from the love of his wife Barbra, the woman he attributes much of his success to, Samuel has three children, Merrilyn Tadiwanashe, Ashley Isheanopa, and Samuel Larry Tinotenda, who all bring him great joy. In his free time, Samuel enjoys nature conservation photography, and is an avid collector of cameras.
Dr Mudavanhu is a seasoned entrepreneur who has been involved in massive housing developments .In 2009 he founded Maranatha Junior School which led to the birth of Maranatha Senior School in 2011. Currently he is involved in the construction of Maranatha Christian University.
Maranatha Christian High School aims to be the regional/international resource centre where, academically; spiritually; technically and emotionally well-rounded students are groomed in order to discern and seize opportunities around them.
